The Trilateral Agreement as the Exit of the Stage

The latest developments in the war in Syria are heading towards the détente that marked the recent stage in general. In continuation of this détente, which we witnessed its last episode in the Syrian south, the opposite attempts continue for blowing up the agreements. As Idlib is the candidate region to deal with in the next stage. Many parties, each in its own style, are making repeated attempts to blow up the Astana Agreement, which was based on the tripartite understanding that emerged earlier this year between Putin, Erdogan and Rouhani in Sochi. They are even trying to undermine the tripartite understanding itself.

"Understanding" Between Major Powers!

The events in the Syrian arena are accelerating towards further détente. From the remarkable development in the southern front, with the participation of some armed groups in the settlements held there, to the signals from the north-east about the readiness of the Kurdish "People's Protection Units" to engage in negotiations; and the frequent doubts about the US role, and the (albeit partial) changes in the US presence in the north; and the gradual return of internally displaced people from many areas of the country to their original areas of residence, and the relative détente in the security situation in some areas of the country; and the diplomatic mobility that took place for the formation of the Constitutional Reform Committee, with the readiness of wide forces of the opposition to submit the names of their representatives to the Committee, despite the reluctance of the Riyadh extremists.

USA Succumbs to the Fait Accompli

The US and Russian presidents will meet in the Finnish capital on July 16, where the choice of time and place has several implications:

Another Step Forward

In the past few days, the city of Geneva witnessed extensive international and Syrian moves to form, and launch the work of, the Constitutional Reform Committee. The preliminary results indicate significant progress in this context, with the guarantors stressing the continuation of the process until its completion. In addressing the different attitude that have emerged toward this political and diplomatic movement, a number of issues must be emphasized:

Syrian Opposition meets Lavrentiev and Verchenin in Geneva

Representatives of Moscow Platform, the Syrian Future Movement (Tayar Al-Ghad), and the Syrian National Democratic Congress met in today's afternoon (Monday 18/06/2018) with Mr. Alexander Lavrentiev, the Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria, and Sergey Vershinin, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, at the headquarter of the Permanent Mission of Russian Federation to the UN in Geneva.

Not a Trade War

The meeting of the Big Seven; the disagreements over the final communique; followed by the US president's quick withdrawal from what was agreed upon; then the European and Canadian hints about the possibility of dispensing with USA presence in the group. All of these events made up a new occasion conforming the division of the Western world, and another proof that what is happening is not just a trade war under the title of steel and aluminum, as promoted, or just divergent views on this or that issue, as rumored! What is happening is rather an expression of a deep structural crisis in the entire Western capitalist center, which touches upon its most important economic and political components. In this context comes the behavior of the United States of America against the background of "self-distancing" from the consequences of this crisis. USA actually knows more than others the depth of the crisis, because it is the center of the crisis.

Jamil: We are Working on Forming the Wide Representation List of Fifty

Head of Moscow platform of the Syrian opposition, Dr. Kadri Jamil, in an interview with radio «Rozana» today, the 5th of June 2018, said that the lists relating to the Constitutional Committee, which will be submitted to Mr. Staffan de Mistura the, is not the lists of the constitutional committee, but lists of candidates among whom the Constitutional Committee to be chosen later on. Dr. Jamil added: "That is, the Syrian government has given 50 names. There are 50 names to be submitted by the opposition, and there are 50 names from civil society, and those (the latter group) will be named with a contribution by Mr. De Mistura."

Consensus and Constitutional Reform

The political developments in the Syrian crisis; the overall reactions and effects that followed during the seven years; and the internal, regional and international balances of forces, have destined the political solution to the Syrian crisis to be necessarily a consensual solution.

Europe and «Big Brother»

There are new indicators in international relations showing that the international situation, within the foreseeable future, is about to undergo major qualitative changes. The latest and most influential phenomenon is the recent escalating differences between the United States and its European allies on many files, including many basic common economic and political structures, which are the pillars of the Western capitalist center, and its instruments of hegemony.

The Other «Middle East»

A multi-polar world is rapidly being consolidated, leaving a tangible impact on the overall processes taking place in today's world. In this context, it is possible to speak of concrete daily facts in political, economic, military and technological fields in various regions of the world. It is normal for the region which has been termed "Middle East" – as the case used to be throughout history – to be one of the main frontlines in the conflict between the old and the new, and one of the areas in which the new international balance of forces are manifested.
