Kassioun Editorial 1201: Syria’s Unity is in Danger!
The two long stages Syria has experienced since 2011 – that is, the stage of fighting and military attrition, following by the stage of economic attrition that continues until now – have laid the foundation for a situation that is simultaneously extremely dangerous and fragile. This has made preserving the unity of Syria and preventing turning the de facto partition into a permanent one, the top priority of patriotic action.
These two stages were parallel with and complementary to the deepening of the brutal liberalization processes pursued by successive Syrian governments, and the encroachment and expansion of major corruption in all its forms, including criminal corruption, so that these negative processes turned into the other side of the comprehensive destruction of Syria.
After October 7, new factors were added to the already complex equation. These factors are both positive and negative. They are positive because they express the progress and growth of the current that is hostile in talk and action to the Americans and the Zionists in our region, and it is the only current that can be relied upon to play a fundamental role in restoring a single, unified Syria by taking advantage of the new international and regional balances, on the basis of a comprehensive, radical change process that begins with the full implementation of UNSC Resolution 2254, in a way that reunifies the Syrian people and Syrian territory.
The negative aspect of the new factors is that they place Syria in the eye of a new storm of dangers and reveal its objective condition as a weak spot in confronting the Zionists and the Americans. The center of this weakness is the lack of crystallization of a clear political will towards standing up to the Americans in talk and action, and even worse than that, falling into the illusions of attempts to reach settlements with them through “step for step” and similar projects, which the extremists in the regime and the opposition alike are working on, and who have linked their fate to the fate of the Americans in our region for several years, at the very least.
The clear American and Zionist endeavor to work on Syria is an endeavor whose main title, as we have said repeatedly, is “comprehensive hybrid chaos”, which has become the center of gravity of American work with the continuation of other forms of sabotage through point wars and others. Within this comprehensive chaos, playing on issues of nationalities, religions, and sects is a fundamental tool.
Within these coordinates, we can understand the recent Turkish-Kurdish work, through the Turkish authorities and Abdullah Ocalan, towards achieving a historic settlement that removes one of the most important explosive fuses from the region. This work cannot be completed and reach its goals without parallel work on a Syrian-Turkish settlement that blocks the path of what the “Israelis” in particular, and with them the Americans, are preparing for Syria within the framework of comprehensive hybrid chaos.
Within these coordinates, it becomes incomprehensible that voices emerge from within the Astana tripartite, to actually feed into the American mill in complicating reaching a settlement, including those trying to push Russia out of the mediation role between Syria and Turkey, which is a very important role as a neutral mediator between the two sides, as the Turkish Foreign Minister actually described. Hence, statements of this type are truly surprising, placing Russia in the framework of formal bias towards one of the two sides through statements that are deeply pessimistic on the one hand, and through the use of specific political language that would complicate the settlement and complicate the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syria, which would make it easier for the Americans to achieve their missions in preventing stability in the region.
Moving towards a Syrian-Turkish settlement in parallel with the full implementation of UNSC Resolution 2254 has become an existential necessity for Syria and its unity. This matter must be pushed towards by the Astana tripartite in a joint and cooperative manner, regardless of the opinion of the Americans and without them if necessary, and against the “Israeli” action that targets all countries and peoples of the region without exception. In order to achieve this goal, all types of obstacles must be overcome, including those that emerge from within the Astana process itself.
