Leadership of the Syrian Negotiation Commission Lives Outside History! – Press Release by Moscow Platform
In the morning of the 30th of December, 2018, a press release was issued on behalf of the Information Office of the Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC), protesting against the return of relations with Syria by some Arab countries, calling on those countries to review their positions and asking for their support to stand with the SNC.
In presenting the draft statement to the «formal usual debate», our representative explained our position in a written form:
"It is not appropriate to issue any statements by the Commission on the subject at hand (the subject of the returning of some States their diplomatic relations with Damascus). This is a sovereign issue for these countries, and we should not intervene in it. Our intervention in it would bear negative results, and be politically harmful. We reiterate our position, in the current time we are against issuing any statement on behalf of the Commission on this subject. the components [of SNC] can, if they wish, issue their own statements... Please do not issue such statement because in case of issuing it, we would have to clarify our position».
Any observer of the group of stances taken by the leadership of the SNC must reach one of two conclusions: either that this group is separate from reality and lacks the skills of assessment of political developments – if we assume good intentions in such a possibility into consideration – or that this group deliberately serves the extremists everywhere, by trying to terminate the Negotiation Commission, believing, with those extremists, that this might terminate the UNSC resolution 2254.
For all we say: Resolution 2254 will be implemented with or without the existence of this commission.
