Regarding the “Transitional Government”
A few hours ago, it was announced that Mr. Mohamed Al-Bashir was assigned to head a “government to manage the transitional phase”, after a meeting that included him, the “former” Prime Minister Mohamed Al-Jalali, and the commander of the “Military Operations” Ahmed Al-Sharaa (Abu Mohamed Al-Julani).
Last Wednesday, November 27, during its press conference following its expansion with the addition of new forces, the Moscow Platform for the Syrian Opposition announced an initiative for a meeting between the opposition and the regime in the Russian capital, Moscow, similar to the “Moscow 1” and “Moscow 2” meetings that took place in 2015. At the time of issuing this call, the latest developments on the ground had not yet begun to appear, but they were nevertheless expected to some extent, and were one of the reasons for launching this initiative.
Within the framework of joint work to push towards a political solution, and following a series of meetings, the Moscow and Cairo Platforms for the Syrian Opposition reached a set of agreements and understandings, the fundamental ones of which are expressed in this memorandum of understanding (MOU), and are as follows:
Press Statement
Moscow Platform
Representatives of the Moscow Platform for the Syrian Opposition in the Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC) - Alaa Arafat, Youssef Salman, Sami Betinjane, Mohannad Dlykan - are heading to attend the SNC's next meeting on 2-3-4 June, in Geneva. This comes after an over 3.5 year interruption in the Platform's participation in any SNC activity, as a result of several pending controversial issues, especially since an arbitrary and illegal decision was taken against the Platform. The decision was to revoke the membership of one of the Platform's representatives in the SNC and its representative to the Syrian Constitutional Committee's Small Group, Mohannad Dlykan, after calling for transferring the Constitutional Committee's work to Damascus while securing the necessary guarantees for that, a position the Platform continues to see as the correct one and continues to demand it.
On Wednesday, 23 September 2020, Mr. Kamal Khalaf, a journalist, hosted on his program “The Game of Nations” on Al-Mayadeen Channel, the Secretary of the People’s Will Party and head of the Moscow platform, Dr. Kadri Jamil to talk about the latest developments in the political process and the situation inside Syria, as well as the details and prospects of the memorandum of understanding signed with the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC).
On March 29, The Syrian Coalition of the Syrian Opposition held an internal virtual meeting, which was attended by some of the former independents within the Negotiations Commission as well as some representatives of the "military factions component", some of whom do not hide their explicit affiliation with the Coalition.
The collapse of the already precarious living situation of the overwhelming majority of Syrians has accelerated in the past two weeks. The catastrophic collapse of the Syrian pound is one of the important indicators of this collapse, which is a direct result of the delay in serious engagement in the process of political solution, a delay that deepens the Syrian humanitarian tragedy and worsens the bleeding Syrian wound, threatening to re-open the doors to all dangerous possibilities for the people and the country.
The leadership of Moscow Platform of the Syrian Opposition was informed by the Head of the Platform, Dr. Kadri Jamil, about the deliberations of his meeting today afternoon with Mr. Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa.
