About one week went by, since the failed Western aggression against Syria, but very soon thereafter things returned back on track, heading to the activation of the triad (Geneva, Astana, Sochi), which was an evident matter at Lavrov's meeting with De Mistura on April 20.

The leadership of the Moscow Platform was briefed by its representatives within the Syrian Negotiating Commission (SNC) on the proceedings of the last meeting of the Commission held during the period from 16 to 19 April 2018 in the Saudi capital city of Riyadh, and in view of the rapid developments witnessed in the Syrian file, especially after what happened in the eastern Ghouta and Afrin, and after the US-French-British aggression,  Moscow platform considered it necessary to inform the Syrian public opinion of its assessment of the latest meeting of SNC, which is supposed to play a serious role in reaching a political solution that the Syrian disaster will not end without. This evaluation can be summarized in the following points:

Aggression between Motives and Results

There are many reasons for the Western aggression on Syria, some of them related to the situation in the country, and around it, and the direction of development of events therein, and some of them exceed the scope of the Syrian crisis and fall within the issues of current international conflict between the rising and declining international powers.

 

The Aggression Failed, The New International Balance Strengthened

After a week of threats and vows, and launching of inflammatory statements, the forces of the «New Tripartite Aggression» launched raids on military and civilian sites in Syria on Saturday, 14/4/2018, by the same time at which the mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) started its work in Syria.

The Chemical Again

On Sunday morning, the world woke up to a new propaganda campaign on the use of chemical weapons, after the problem of Al-Gouta was nearing an end, after restoration of large areas back to the authority of the Syrian state. At the time the negotiations were continuing on completing the process to include the city of Duma under an agreement Sponsored by the Russian party.

 

Statement by Moscow Platform on Al-Ghouta and Stirring up the Chemical Issue Again

Recent events related to the Eastern Gouta indicate that the complexity of the situation and the obstruction of the solution that has been on the horizon for some days, have been aimed at reaching the current situation today, that is, the stirring up of the issue of Chemical attacks again, up to Western escalation in general, and specifically the US threats of executing a direct military strike under the pretext of protecting civilians, aiming at extending the crisis and attrition for extra time.

Statement by Media Office of Moscow Platform

A few hours ago, a statement was issued by the Media Office of the Syrian Negotiation Commission which "condemns the chemical attack" and demands that "the Syrian issue be presented outside the Security Council".
