Statement by People's Will Party on May Day

The first of May this year comes in a time when the Corona Pandemic is spreading across the world, revealing once again the brutality of the capitalist system in dealing with the rights of workers and the poor. This system has no concern but the highest profit, even if it is at the expense of the lives of millions of people who have reached the brink of hunger, displacement and destitution.

Workmen and workwomen,

You are the producers of the wealth enjoyed by the forces of capital and big corruption, but you are deprived of them because of the economic and social policies that are totally biased to those forces, at the expense of your interests, rights and your living standards that are deteriorating, and also because of the very low level of trade unions freedoms and political freedoms, that impeding you from defending your interests, on top which: securing fair wages for guaranteeing your needs and the necessities of a decent life.

The real solution to obtaining your rights is the political solution which is, however, impeded by the extremists on both sides. The political solution based on UNSC Resolution 2254 provides the possibility to fight for social justice and promotes political freedoms, trade union freedoms, and democracy that constitute the key to extracting back your rights to you.

Workers, let's fight for:

1- A real increase in wages that secures dignity and a decent standard of living for us.

2- Increasing the minimum wage to be proportional to the prices increments.

3- Opening the ceiling for wages and salaries.

4- Activating the right to strike – which is a constitutional right – in order to defend our interests.

5- Activating the constitutional right for the independence of our trade union movement and enhancing its role and effectiveness against those who are looting us.

Forward together, workwomen and workmen, for a fair distribution of wealth and for the deepest social justice.
