Kassioun Editorial 1040: The Constitutional Committee – Real Results is What is Required

The extremists’ clear and declared hopes were that no additional rounds of the Committee would be held. They had hoped not only to lay to rest the Constitutional Committee, but also to lay to rest with it UNSC Resolution 2254. Holding the new round of the Committee would bury their hopes.
Although this is positive in itself, it is not enough at all. If the Constitutional Committee has over the past years played the role of the central recovery room for the political solution, the patient could also die in the recovery room unless given appropriate treatment.
Pushing the Constitutional Committee to play its role as the door opener to implementing the political solution, which is the only remedy for the Syrian catastrophe, this now requires real steps on two levels:
The general level: This is related to the circumstances surrounding the work of the Committee, and it has become clear that they would not allow it to move forward because of the extremists’ control and influence. Changing these circumstances passes through the full and parallel implementation of all the clauses of 2254, primarily the transitional governing body.
The specific level: This relates to the internal circumstances of the Committee’s work, which require three critical improvements:
1. Transferring its work to Damascus with the required guarantees and ending attempts to treat it as a “political game taking place in Geneva”.
2. Modifying the Committee’s composition to include as wide a spectrum of Syrians as possible, in a manner that ensures its success in carrying out its mission.
3. Broadcasting the Committee’s work and discussions directly to the public, so that Syrians can hear and see and hear the behavior and words of those who say they represent them and are keen to end their catastrophe. Those who reject this particular request, by doing so they set up an argument against themselves before anyone else establishes it against them.
The goal of the extremists by alluding there is movement without actually carrying it out, in addition to the time wasting in general over the past years, was defined by their selfish interests’ perspective and their unwillingness to make any concession to the Syrian people.
For the Americans and Zionists, the goal of wasting time was to deepen attrition and perpetuate the de facto division to reach a state of total collapse.
The past few months clearly show that the Americans and Zionists have, from their point of view, reached the stage of reaping the fruits of the attrition, which they express with the slogan “changing the regime’s behavior”, and what is intended by that is to uproot Syria from its historical position.
Therefore, any further waste of time and charades of deceptive movement, will not fool anyone. Furthermore, it will fall directly within the American and Zionist category, and therefore patriotic Syrians should not tolerate it at all.
