Who is Behind Ibrahim Hamidi?

Ibrahim Hamidi, a journalist, published in Asharq Al-Awsat, today Wednesday, 10 February, an article titled “A Joint Military Council… A Written Proposal for Russia, Which Holds on to Assad” (Arabic).

In his article, Hamidi devoted a paragraph under the heading “A Military Council”, in which he talked about what he called “a document obtained by Asharq Al-Awsat”, which, according to his claim, was a written proposal submitted by the Moscow and Cairo platforms during their joint visit to Moscow on the 21st of last month, during which they met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

It is really interesting that a non-existent “document” would reach Asharq Al-Awsat. The political meaning of inventing such a “document” is a matter that we will discuss shortly, but first, it is necessary to praise the journalistic “professionalism” of Hamidi, who did not bother to follow the simplest rules of journalistic work, which is that he contacts the concerned party to inquire about the authenticity or lack thereof of the alleged “document”.

In any case, this is not the first time that Hamidi has demonstrated his “professionalism”. Nearly four months ago, Kassioun had documented the fraud committed by Hamidi by deliberately distorting the statements of Russian Foreign Minister regarding northeastern Syria in an article titled “If a Fasiq Brings News…

The insolence of the fraudulence at that time was blinding; as Asharq Al-Awsat published at the time two texts, one in Arabic and the other in English, the latter supposed to be a translation of the first. However, there was one difference between the two texts, a sentence which was one that Hamidi invented and attributed to Lavrov in the Arabic text but not the English, because the “journalistic professionalism” of some varies from one language to another.

This forgery, and by “purely coincidence”, like a series of other coincidences with the same author, transformed Lavrov’s words into a carbon copy of the official Syrian government’s rhetoric towards northeastern Syria and the political forces therein.

The endless series of coincidences also includes Hamidi’s invention of a “secret visit” made by Lavrentiev, the Russian president’s special envoy to Damascus, even though a well-known Russian source denied on Asharq Al-Awsat itself such a visit. Moreover, although the Russia Today website published an official denial (Arabic) of this news a week ago, on the 3rd of this month, nevertheless, Hamidi insisted on repeating his lie, as he mentioned it in his last article, without any reference to the repeated denials thereof.

Why?

It is abundantly clear that there is simultaneous intense media talk, coming from several individuals, sides, and channels, about the establishment of a so-called “military council”.

It is known that there is no reference in 2254 to anything called a military council. Moreover, all the propositions that are being broadcast about this supposed council overlap in that they are propositions that has a “coup”-like character. That is, they go completely against and opposite to the path of a political solution, and they represent a new form of the propositions of “a military solution and toppling”, which besides that they were burned down and destroyed the country and the people, they are not realistic. Therefore, those who propose them, and those who propose the idea of a “military council” want from that not to topple the regime as they claim, but on the contrary, to maintain the situation of crisis and division that the country is experiencing, and prolong it as much as possible.

Moreover, the widespread campaign that overlaps in this talk about a “military council” comes at a particular time after the failure of the fifth round of the Constitutional Committee, and the opening of horizons for the possibilities of moving towards other very serious steps in implementing Resolution 2254. Therefore, what is required is to cut off these efforts that aim to disrupt and completely divert the path away from 2254.
