As the world peeks from behind nearly shut doors, waiting and standing on tiptoes, fearful of the new plague, an old plague continues to ravish hearts and lives.
The US envoy to the Syrian crisis, James Jeffrey, issued this evening a statement that was published on the U.S. embassy in Syria website, in which he expressed rejection of what he called “the farcical Russian statements alleging” that the moves that obstructed the Russian-Turkish patrols from completing their course on the M4 highway were moves instigated by terrorist organizations.

The statements exchanged between Russia and Turkey regarding Idlib occupy the greater part of the current political-media scene relating to Syria. This includes a sweeping flood of “analyses” that hopes for the end of the Astana and Sochi tracks, and even the crumbling of what has now become known to everyone as a strategic alliance between Russia and Turkey.
Today, the situation in Idlib and military operations there, as well as the humanitarian situation, are at the forefront; something that is normal and expected.
Those who have been following James Jeffrey’s statements and moves since he took office as US special envoy to Syria (August 2018), can assert that his “busy” agenda consists of just one item and one mission: sabotaging everything that the Russians do and closing the door to any path that could lead to ending the Syrian crisis.

Physicists define black holes, in a simplified manner, as regions in time and space having very large mass and compressed within small volumes. Thus, they have enormous gravitational force, where they swallow anything that comes near within gravitational field limits, this is known as “event horizon.”
“We [the United States] recognize that there are terrorists in Idlib. There’s also a very large group, the al-Nusra or Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, HTS, that is an al-Qaida offshoot. It is considered a terrorist organization, but it is primarily focused on fighting the Assad regime. It itself claims – we haven’t accepted that claim yet, but they do claim to be patriotic opposition fighters, not terrorists. We have not seen them generate, for example, international threats for some time.”

Three years ago, more specifically the 23rd and 24th of January 2017, the first meeting of the Astana talks took place in the Kazakh capital, sponsored by each of Russia, Turkey, and Iran.
The plunge of the Syrian pound (SYP) to foreign currencies exchange rate continues at an unprecedented pace over the nine years of the crisis. While the price was revolving around 600 SYP to the dollar during the month of August (2019), it recently reached about 1,200 SYP to the dollar – a decrease by half in the SYP exchange rate within four months.
