US President Donald Trump announced today, Thursday, 13 August 2020, reaching what he called a “historic agreement” for a comprehensive normalization of relations between the UAE and the Zionist Entity.
It is no secret that the US has been using different means to push Arab states toward normalization with “Israel”. These means have been for the most part indirect, and using different channels – diplomatic, political, military, civil society, development programs, etc. Though being indirect does not mean necessarily undetectable or unnoticeable; to the contrary, they are often quite obvious. However, we have seen over the last few years more blatant US efforts to push towards normalization with “Israel.”
Some Syrians try to present the question of the political solution to the crisis and Resolution 2254 as contradicting Syrian patriotism, under the pretext that this resolution is an international one, in which representatives of the Syrian people did not participate. Some even go further and consider it a “colonial resolution.” Regardless whether this opinion is ignoring or ignorance of the content of the resolution and the circumstances that led to it issuance, its only explanation is making national affairs hostage to specific political forces, whether from this or that side, and delegating to them this major strategic issue. Indeed, some believe that defending the homeland has to pass the test of rejecting Resolution 2254, and further that it means defending the status quo.

The two Syrian Kurdish sides – the Kurdish National Unity Parties, which includes 25 parties, and the Kurdish National Council – announced on the 16th of this month, that they had reached a preliminary agreement after many years dominated by a sort of disconnect between the two parties. There was even a dispute that reached the level of contradiction and an exchange of accusations on many occasions, despite the fact that there is between the two parties, or between major parts thereof, a history of a series of agreements – Hawler 1, Hawler 2, Dohuk – that did not succeed in reaching the desired objectives thereof.
