Kassioun’s last editorial pointed to the necessity of dealing with the accumulated and emerging conditions that define the current Syrian situation—domestically, regionally, and internationally—through urgent and emergency measures. This comes as various crises intensify and risk erupting, amid an ongoing war whose end is unclear. What is clear, however, is that its consequences will be significant for the world, the region, and implicitly our country, regardless of the outcomes or the timeframe in which it ends.

Both “Israel” and the US began a new round of aggression against Iran on Saturday, 28 February 2026, about eight months after the end of the first round of aggression, which has come to be known as the “12-Day War”. As was the case the first time, the aggression was launched amid ongoing negotiations—indeed, just one day after the Omani mediator announced that significant progress had been made—once again making clear that neither the American nor the “Israeli” side can ever be trusted, and that nothing can be expected from them but destruction and chaos.

The well-known objective law continues to operate: War is the iron lung through which capitalism breathes, and the deeper its crises become, the more it expands the scope of war. In today’s world, after the Western center lost the vast majority of real production processes and retains the dollar financial center and dominance of international institutions due to the inertia of the past, war has become its sole and most important tool. The entirety of the Western center has become an iron lung of war, with nothing left to offer the planet but wars, destruction, and sanctions.

On Friday, June 13, 2025, and with blatant American complicity, “Israel” launched an unprecedented, large-scale aggression against Iran, despite ongoing negotiations on the Iranian nuclear file. Numerous countries around the world and in our region condemned this aggression, most notably the clear and justified condemnations issued by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt, along with condemnations from all Arab countries.

On Tuesday, April 18, the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria (AANES) published a document entitled “An initiative to solve the Syrian crisis”. Those who issued the document called on the various Syrian forces to consider it.

On Friday, March 10, a historic agreement was announced between Saudi Arabia and Iran, including resumption of diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries after an interruption that lasted more than seven years (since January 2016). This agreement was reached through Chinese mediation at the highest levels. The two sides expressed gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jingping personally for his efforts to achieve a settlement between the two countries.

The People’s Will Party (PWP) welcome the important Agreement announced today between Saudi Arabia and Iran, sponsored by the People’s Republic of China. PWP believes that it is a good beginning for resolving a number of regional crises, including the Syrian crisis.

On Tuesday, February 14, a Russian MFA media release about a meeting between Mikhail Bogdanov, the Special Representative of the Russian President, and Kadri Jamil, one of the Syrian Opposition leaders, stated: “the Russian side stressed the need to establish practical cooperation between Damascus and Ankara in order to overcome the consequences of the earthquake on February 6.”

This statement confirms Russia’s pursuit of a Syrian-Turkish settlement, which over the seven months preceding the earthquake, was the main item on the agenda of the Astana Format (for Syria peace talks).

After the disappearance of talk about the so-called “Arab NATO”, which came about with the “normalization” agreements signed by the UAE and Bahrain in 2020, it reemerged through two American reports. One is an interview with the Jordanian king published by CNBC last Friday, June 24, and the second published by American media outlet Wall Street Journal last Sunday, June 26. Since then, there has been a plethora of “analyses” related to the issue in various media outlets.

The leadership of Moscow Platform of the Syrian Opposition was informed by the Head of the Platform, Dr. Kadri Jamil, about the deliberations of his meeting today afternoon with Mr. Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa.
