Kassioun Editorial 1232: Golan Was and Will Always Be Syrian!

As soon as the ceasefire between the Zionist entity and Iran went into effect, the American and “Israeli” media and political machine began aggressively promoting forthcoming normalization agreements with “several countries in the region”. Over the past two days, a number of “Israeli” newspapers and websites have published what they called “leaks” about supposed agreements to be signed with Syria, pursuant to which Syria would relinquish the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, not to mention the volume of rumors circulating online.

Before any discussion of the meaning and objectives of this campaign, a legal, moral, and patriotic fact must be established: no authority in Syria has the right or power to sign any “peace” or “war” agreement unless it is a directly, fairly, and transparently elected authority that expresses the will of the Syrian people. Furthermore, even elected authorities have no right or power to relinquish any part of the country’s territory. This is in accordance not only with all previous Syrian constitutions, but also with the current Constitutional Declaration, and with its first article, which literally states: “The Syrian Arab Republic is an independent state with full sovereignty. It is an indivisible geopolitical unit, and no part of it may be relinquished”.

Another issue that must be established is that even if we set aside the legal, moral, and patriotic dimensions and discuss the proposed supposed “peace” from a purely pragmatic and self-interested perspective, what should be clear in our minds as Syrians is that the Zionist entity has no interest in any real peace, neither in Syria nor in the region as a whole. What can serve its continued function as a tool for Western control over our region is surrender and submission that leads to self-destruction, internal wars, and partition. The “Israelis” possess enough arrogance and official insolence to declare and “proclaim” these goals at every opportunity; that is, the goals of dividing Syria on sectarian, religious, and nationalist grounds.

Moving on to the purpose of the abovementioned political-media campaign, we can summarize the matter in the following points:

First: If some had imagined that the fall of the Assad regime was an American-“Israeli” victory, that Syria would become an American protectorate, and that “Israel” would be the master of the region and the thug controlling it, then the 12-day war, the positions of the Arab and regional states during it, and the results of that war should remove the veil from their eyes and insights.

Second: “Israel”, along with the US, seeks to limit the negative consequences and repercussions of their failure in the war on Iran (of which only a small portion has been revealed, and the larger portions will be revealed day by day). In this context, they seek to create a global political circus, including in our region, to present acrobatic stunts around a “sweeping victory”, to minimize and delay the effects of failure, and to attempt to compensate for it if possible.

Third: The global center of gravity, with its productive, economic, military, human, technological, and even cultural dimensions, has shifted eastward, and the matter is over. There is no turning back from that. Implicitly, the “Israeli”-American Middle East project is doomed to collapse and ultimate defeat within the short to medium term.

Anyone who wants to view Syria’s future from the perspective of the Syrian national interest must recognize these facts, act accordingly, and prepare for the return of the occupied Golan Heights to change from a distant dream into a realistic and achievable possibility, also within the short to medium term.
