No preconditions, no postponement. these are the highlights of the briefing given by UN Envoy Staffan de Mistura to the UN Security Council on the upcoming round of the Geneva talks on the Syrian crisis, which should summarize his conclusions and his regional and international contacts and reflects the level of consensus reached by the two main players regarding the political solution in Syria.
The declaration of breaking the siege imposed on Deir al-Zour represents a new phase in the history of the Syrian crisis. Most analyses and readings of the event indicate that it is a continuation of the series of field defeats of Daesh [ISIS] terrorist organization. In addition, this event consolidates the appropriate atmosphere for a new advance on the path of the political process, and push it to the stage of direct negotiations between the regime and the opposition, especially as the process goes in parallel with expansion of the de-escalation zones.
As early as the start of the recent round of Geneva Intra-Syrian Talks up till now, the Syrian scene has been witnessing a number of rapid political and on-ground events.
For more than a year now, different «foreign» and «domestic» projects for reconstructing Syria are increasingly surfacing. What’s new, however, is that talking about these projects attained very recently higher paces, coinciding with the speeding up of Syrian Pound destruction processes.
