Last Thursday, January 11, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) began looking into the case filed by South Africa on December 29, 2023, in which it accused “Israel” of committing the crime of “genocide” against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, on the basis of “Israel’s” violation of its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (the Genocide Convention), based on both parties being signatories to the Genocide Convention. This is the first time that a case has been filed against the Zionist entity in the ICJ. However, in 2004 the ICJ considered a request for an advisory opinion related to the Zionist entity, specifically regarding the separation wall that it built in the occupied West Bank, which the ICJ concluded was illegal. There is also before the ICJ a request for another advisory opinion – on which a decision has not yet been issued –referred by the UN General Assembly at the end of 2022 on the legal consequences of “the Israeli occupation, settlement, and annexation”.

Many media, political, and human rights organizations covered the sessions in which the two parties presented their case. A lot of general information was circulated about the ICJ, the Genocide Convention, and what has been happening in Gaza since last October 7. We will not cover this type of information here, but we will try to answer some basic questions briefly, each of which can be expanded upon in later articles.

Scholars of World War II history agree that among the most important reasons for the collapse of Nazism at the time, was its opening two major fronts together, the first in 1939 and the second in 1941.

As events unfold in Palestine and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, with a vicious violent escalation by the Zionist enemy especially in Gaza, but also inside the Green Line targeting the Palestinians living in the 1948 Occupied Territories, it is becoming much harder for the world to hide behind its finger.

For the second day in a row, the Zionist enemy continues its aggressive bombing of the Gaza Strip, as well as the terrorizing attacks in multiple areas of the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Palestinian struggle continues to escalate in Jerusalem, and in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in particular, against the forced displacement, settlement, and Judaization operations taking place against Palestine as a whole and primarily against Jerusalem.

There is no argument that the Palestinian people’s struggle has always been a beacon for all those walking on the paths of freedom and fighting injustice in its local and global dimensions. This struggle is a source of strength and pride for anyone who stands in the face of injustice in any part of the world.

It is no secret that the US has been using different means to push Arab states toward normalization with “Israel”. These means have been for the most part indirect, and using different channels – diplomatic, political, military, civil society, development programs, etc. Though being indirect does not mean necessarily undetectable or unnoticeable; to the contrary, they are often quite obvious. However, we have seen over the last few years more blatant US efforts to push towards normalization with “Israel.”
